The Maine Medal Finals
Sunday, September 28, 2008

We are very pleased to announce that the 2008 Maine Medal Finals will return to the Pineland Farms Equestrian Center in New Gloucester, Maine for its 12th Annual Horse Show.  The Finals will be held on Sunday, September 28th, 2008 at this premiere equestrian facility.  The Equestrian Center, home to a therapeutic riding program and breeding and training facility for Dutch Warmbloods, is set on the rolling countryside of Pineland's 300 acre campus.  The heated indoor arena is 100' x 250' with Permaflex footing and plenty of spectator seating.  The outdoor arena is 100' x 260' and also has Permaflex footing and lots of space for spectators. You can view the facility, including a glimpse of the impressive indoor arena, at the Pineland website at www.pinelandfarms.org/horses/pfec.htm

We are also pleased to announce our judges for the 2008 Finals.  Nancy Murphy, USEF "R", of Middleboro, Massachusetts, will judge the Adults, Childrens and Junior equitation riders in the indoor arena.  Lisa Foster, USEF "R", of Dover, Massachusetts, will judge the 18" classes in the outdoor ring in the morning and then join Nancy in the indoor to give us a two-judge panel for the later classes in the indoor.  We thank you for your support of the Maine Medal Finals in the past and welcome you to the 2008 show season.

    About Our Program

In order to compete at the Finals, a rider must qualify in one of five divisions by earning points in qualifying classes at local horse shows throughout the season. There are well over 40 horse shows each year in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts offering qualifying classes.  There are six divisions at the Finals giving riders of different ages and abilities the chance to compete among peers. Three divisions are for junior riders: the Junior Mini-Medal (18” fences), the Children’s Medal (2’3” fences), Pony Medal (2'3" sm/med. and 2'6" large) and the Junior Medal (2’9” fences). There are two divisions for amateur adult riders: the Modified Adult Medal (2’3” fences) and the Adult Medal (2’9” fences).  Please check our events page to plan your road to the Finals in 2008.

To qualify for the Medal Finals, a rider must accumulate 10 points or more in his/her respective division in qualifying classes. Points are awarded as follows:

1st – 8 points
2nd –6 points
3rd – 4 points
4th – 3 points
5th – 2 points
6th – 1 points

Point standings are updated as show results come in so check the point standings page often for updates. Medal classes must have 3 entries complete the course in order for points to count toward the Finals. There is no affiliation or membership requirement in order to compete in Maine Medal classes.
